Perusing a lot of RTW (round the world) travel blogs, Mitch and I kept hearing about the famed Khao San Road — the backpackers’ haven in Bangkok, so naturally we were pretty excited and had to check it out. I was hoping to meet like-minded travelers with whom we could swap travel tips and plans.
I’m sorry to say that it was terrible.
Khao San Road is what I would describe as a terrible version of Vegas, and I’m not a Vegas aficionado. The street is lined with tacky souvenir shops, pad thai vendors, bros, overpriced travel agents, and western-catered bars blaring electronic music, each seemingly trying to drown out the other. It was interesting to see just to know what the fuss was all about (not much), but we spent a grand total of about 15 minutes walking down the street and went home. #GrandmaStatus
There is so much more to Thailand and traveling than what we saw there. We love what we have seen in Thailand, and Khao San Road is really a terrible representation of what this country is like. Now we know! Onto the next adventure!
